It was a great airshow day at Tyndall AFB in beautiful Panama City, Florida with
the bright blue Florida sunshine and temperature in the 80’s. Being with family
and good friends and enjoying some awesome flying along with Tyndall’s
hospitality was about as close to airshow heaven as you get. You didn’t have
time to blink an eye as you would have missed some of the all-day fast flying.
After viewing and being nosy around the huge static displays, it was time to see
the Army’s Black Daggers jump and hear some noise from four Tyndall-based F-15s
during their flyby after our National Anthem. Joey Sanders Big Red T-6, the
Vortex Pitts, and the Aerostars Team YAK 52s all followed with excellent demos.
We got to see a beautiful P-40 chase around a Tora 101 Zero replica. Red Eagle
Team’s awesome Talons wowed everyone along with the Trojan Phlyers doing a nice
performance with one of my favorite planes, the T-28. And of course, huge
favorite Patty Wagstaff showed off her new paint scheme on the Extra 300 and
her,always fantastic demo.
The show became a bit louder with David Burdine flying the beautiful blue MiG 17
around the skies. And the F-16 West Coast Demo Team added to that with their
demo. A huge show-stealer was the demo of the F-22 Raptor. I don’t think
Brittney Spears’ bald head would have attracted more attention at Tyndall than
the Raptor did. The huge Tyndall spectator crowd jammed the flight line to
absorb every second of the Raptor’s flight. A F-4 Phantom, the F-16, and Dale
Snodgrass’s F-86 joined the Raptor in the Heritage flight. And as if we weren’t
spoiled enough, the Blue Angels added the final topping with their
outstanding-as-ever demonstration.
A huge thank you to Tyndall AFB personnel and the performers for treating us
like royalty and running an excellent show. No one went home disappointed. See
you next year.
