The Greatest Show on Turf
The title of the show does not do it justice. The people at HAG 1941, in Geneseo, New York, probably put on one of the finest shows anywhere. Where else could you find WWI replicas up to the East Coast F-16 Demo Team flying around the skies of above a grass runway.
With civilian performers with the names like Rick Volker, Rob Holland, the Flying Farmer and Miss Carol Pilon. Or have the B-2 or the Osprey fly through.
They had over 60 aircraft attending this year attending this year. It was a great sight seeing 3 Spitfires in the air at once along with a Hurricane. One of rarest aircraft was a two seat Spit. They also had a nice collection of Mitchell bombers and P-40s. Their plan for next year is to invite all the flying P-40s in North America to attend.
The CHAA provided a seven plane formation fly past with a missing man salute to all the military personnel in North America. Following their fly past the Aerobatic portion of the Harvards took over the skies.
From the New York Air National Guard, a C-130 Hercules was parked down by the museum hangar and by mid afternoon. It came to life and performed a short strip takeoff. After making several passes, the cargo doors open and it delivered two palleted skids in to the bean field.
Up from the state of South Carolina, came the USAF East Coast Demo F-16. Launching out of near by Rochester and adding the great jet noise to valley. And launching from the grass runway below was the P-51 Heritage Flight aircraft.
At the end of the day they had two mass take-offs and fly-bys of the fighters and the bombers.
