The 2010 Moody AFB Community Appreciation Day Airshow which took place on Nov 13th at Moody AFB, Georgia was to be the final performance by A-10 East Pilot Major Johnnie “Dusty” Green. Unfortunately, a swamp fire burning 60 miles away dumped a huge amount of thick brown smoke over the entire area, including Moody AFB.

While several of the acts were able to get in limited performances, the show was ultimately terminated early with visibility falling below minimums due to the smoke. This was especially disappointing as Dusty was supposed to fly as part of the Heritage Flight which was to include the A-10, Dale “Snort” Snodgrass in a Mustang, and a QF-4 Phantom.

Fortunately, Dusty was able to get his last A-10 demo in before the show was stopped. After his performance, Maj. Green demonstrated his commitment to the gathered throngs by walking the entire rope line (the length of the entire ramp) signing autographs, handing out stickers, and thanking the crowd. A class act all the way.
