This is the beginning of hopefully many Wings and Wheels Tillsonburg.
Like all good things, it had a shaky start to its new life.
With extreme weather going through the area on the Friday, many of the featured aircraft could not make it in. With the same type the weather being predicted for the Saturday. The show was small, but very enjoyable.
The show opened with the Formation Team of the Canadian Harvard Association. Lead by Greg Burnard, the four planes changed formation with ease. From Diamond to Echelon to Line Astern, painting a mural in the sky of yellow airplanes and white smoke trails.
Next up were the Russell Raiders with Rick Volker at the controls of the Bf109e and Dave Hewitt flying the Hurricane. Taking off from the far grassy strip the two pilots re-enact what could be a scene from the Battle of Britain.
As the Tiger Moth of the Harvard Association lifted off the skies opened up and the rain came down. After a brief weather delay the show continued with more formation flying, the Russell Raiders going up again. And the Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team taking over the skies near Tillsonburg.
Missing from the day’s activities were the Great War Flying Museum, WWI replicas and the sister organization to the CHAA, JAM – Jet Aircraft Museum and some of their six T-33s.
