“Of Cloth and Wood”

The Great War Flying Museum at Brampton And Tiger Boys Open House at Guelph, Ontario

There is a richness of Ontario’s aeronautical history, starting with Alexander Graham Bell and the Silver Dart to modern day Bombardier.  Sprinkled across the province are many airports and airfields.

Two of these airports recently held open houses. The first was at the Brampton airport, north of Toronto. This airport is the home of the Great War Flying Museum.  In their hangar, is a collection of memorabilia from the First World War.  Among the collection are a several replicas of the aircraft from that era.

The open house attracted a dozen or more from that era up to the Second World War. Throughout the day the museum flew many sorties.

The following weekend, at the Guelph airport, the Tiger Boys stage their open house. The Tiger Boys are a group owning four DH-82 Tiger Moths or variants, plus several other historical significant aircraft.  Some of the other aircraft in their collection is the first Taylor E2 Cub registered in Canada and a Fleet Finch.  One of the static aircraft in the collection is a North American Yale trainer, the aircraft starred in the movie – Captain of the Clouds, with James Cagney.

With their open house they attracted several dozen aircraft from the 1930’s up to modern ultralights and general aviation aircraft.

For a mere fee of $40 you could go for a flight in a Jackaroo or one of their other aircraft.  Or you could watch aircraft transiting to and from the open house.
