Windsor, Ontario Canada has become the Mecca of aviation in Canada for 2009. First hosting the Red Bull Series in June of this year. Then holding the Windsor International Air Show on the last weekend of August.
This is the first airshow that Windsor has had in many years. The airport has two beautiful long runways of 9000’ and 5160’. With the length of their runways the airshow attracted the Mainiacs KC135, four F15’s of the Wild Boars from MO. The US Navy sent up from FL assorted trainers and transports. As well there was a mighty MH-53E and WC-130H. Making a short hop from Winnipeg the CT-142 was on display. |

The Golden Birds of the Centennial Flight and the Snowbirds made up a large portion of the show. And on the ground with the golden theme, the OPP Golden Helmets performed on their police Harley Davidson’s. The Canadian SkyHawks thrilled the crowds with their close canopy flying of their chutes. With one point in the Red Bull Series Canada’s own Pete McLeod performed in his Giles G-200. And fresh off his win in Portugal, Michael Goulian raised the standards of aerobatic flying in his Extra 330. For the quiet interlude Manfred Radius and his Salto aerobatic glider filled the skies with the whisper of the wind. While Jackie “B” Warda and Rick Volker shook the surrounds with their extreme form of aerobatics in their individual acts. From the roar of three Pratt and Whitney engines, the Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team filled the skies over Windsor with smoke and charm of the planes of yesteryear. Michael Potter brought his P-51 from the Victory Wings collection, making his first aerobatic performance. Hot Gen B-25 from Canadian Warplane Heritage, showed off the sport car agility of this medium bomber making near knife edge turns and high speed climbs.
With the smoke settled, the plans for next year’s show have started. |
