The Riverside Municipal Airport held its 16th annual airshow in March of 2008.  Over 70,000 spectators from all over Southern California came to enjoy the precise aerobatics, graceful warbirds, and powerful jets, as well as dozens of lovingli-maintained classic cars, and may other displays.

Plenty of heavy metal was flown: The USAF showed off an F-16, an A-10, a KC-135 and a C-17. The huge Globemaster was arguably the star of the show, amazing the crowd by taking off and landing at the tiny airport. The US Navy, not to be outdone, demonstrated its sleek and loud F/A-18C. Several museums and private owners flew their warbirds, including P-51s, a Corsair, a Hellcat, a Zero, and a Beech 18. John Collver did aerobatics in his SNJ, and a group of pilots flew five T-6s in a variety of formations.

Sean D. Tucker and Doug Jardine pushed their high-energy aerobatic airplanes - and themselves - to the limit, seeming to defy the laws of physics. The Silver Wings wingwalking team and Doctor D in his Taylorcraft gave the crowd a taste of airshow flying as it was done 60-80 years ago. Other acts included the Above & Beyond jet dragster, Just-In-Time skydiving, and a police chase including a helicopter. While hosted by a small airport, Riverside is a tremendously diverse airshow, fun for the whole family. Southern California airshow fans already can't wait until next year!
