The
BRITISH are COMING!!! Welcome the Red Arrows to the United
States to the Langley AFB - Air Power Over Hampton Roads,
2008! Over the weekend of June 20, many aviation performers
converged on Hampton Virginia to showcase the very best in
Acrobatics, History and Modern Military aviation. Langley did
not secure a major US demonstration team this year, but did
one better by hosting the Royal Air Force Red Arrows, a
squadron flying the BAE Hawk trainer aircraft in tight
formation as well as high energy, fast maneuvers. Surprising
to many spectators, the British pilots really get into the
performance by screaming in cadence as the pull from one
maneuver to the next. Many a spectator chuckled at the antics
of the pilots.
This
year, Langley hosted country singer Pat Green as an
intermission for the Friday night flying. Flanked by a F-22A
Raptor and a F-15E Strike Eagle and a back drop of the
American flag, Pat put on a great performance. The night show
really became a twilight show because it happened to fall on
the longest day of the year, marking the start of Summer. New this year was the VORTEX PITTS. A spectacular act flown by K-9 in a one of a kind Pitts bi-plane. This aircraft was a combination of the best of the Pitts and the Christen Eagle aircraft. Also, this year was a special one in Hampton Roads as it marks the final year of the F-22A Raptor demonstration on their home turf... Well, okay. Its the "current" team's final performance here. A new team will be in place for the 2009 season.
I hope you enjoy viewing the Airshow through my lens. |
