This is the second year for this very unique show. It is held at the former Rockcliffe Air Station not far from the banks of the Ottawa. Rockcliffe is the home of the Canadian Aviation Museum and the Rockcliffe Flying Club.
Having a runway of less than 3000 feet, the organizers came up with unique show. They would bring in vintage airplanes and cars to grounds of this ex military base. This year, they took a slight vector from the plan by bringing a Griffon Helicopter from CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick and by having the Canadian SkyHawks come with a big yellow Buffalo. Michael Potter brought several of his planes in from Gatineau and many private classics flew in.
If one wanted to, you could visit the museum collection or go for a guided tour of the annex and see the many planes in storage.
Some of the highlights from the weekend fly in were the twin launch of two DHC-2 Beavers, one from the runway and the other from the river. They had a gaggle of Seabees doing circuits.
The stars of the show would the appearance of Michael Potter’s Spitfire and his P-51 Mustang.
With each year, the fly in has grown and next years should be even bigger and better.
