In the words of the people of the Caribbean, HOT, HOT, HOT. With temperatures well over 100o F with the humidex factor on the weekend. Plus a new format, the show was pushed into the infield of the airport to make room for the expected crowds to watch the Blue Angels. The show lost its old feel. But speaking with the organizer, this was an experimental show. And next years show will go back to the homey feel of the Warbird shows, with a possible chance of every other year being a jet team show. The show could easily been called GOMB. The Gathering of Mitchell Bombers, with 14 of the 15 invited Mitchells appearing. There was a good mix of props, classic jets and the new. Besides the Mitchells, there was a nice gathering of Mustangs and Thunderbolts. For classic jets, they had a Sabre and a MiG 17, and a T-33. Something of an unusual character was Skirosky H-34 helicopter done up in a Korea era paint scheme. And for the modern they had the East Coast F-16 team with a P-51 heritage flight. And of course the main attraction, the Blue Angels with Fat Albert. |
