The American Heroes Air Show was a very nice show that seemed to be well attended. The location of the event, Heritage Park in Canton, was an excellent site. The design of the park divided itself into three main areas. One area was used for area Public Safety organizations to set up displays for HazMat, SWAT, search/rescue, and EMS exhibits. The center section of the park had a small stage and was used for presentations, a couple of speeches, and a swearing in ceremony for 10 people as new naturalized citizens. In the center section was also the three larger helicopters, which included a Huey for the Georgia State Patrol, an Army Blackhawk medivac helicopter, and an older Sikorsky S-58T from Aircrane, Inc. The third section was filled with civilian helicopters on static display, including several R-44 helicopters and a few other models.

It is hard for me to estimate crowd size, but I would say there were somewhere between 10,000-20,000 people who attended throughout the day. Helicopters began arriving shortly after 7 am and it was interesting to watch air boss Don Johnson bring them in, avoiding the high tension power lines along one side of the park, and land them all safely. The air demonstrations began around 11am with a C-130 from Dobbins ARB making several passes over the park. Next a privately owned L-39 Albatross also made several low passes over the park. Around lunch time the Georgia State Patrol Huey took off and performed a SWAT insertion demo for the crowd. Then in early afternoon a T-6 Texan and a PT-6 Stearman planes made some passes over the park. It was about this time a small little rain shower started and I left for the day.
