This annual Armed Forces day celebration took over Joint Base Andrews on May 15 & 16, 2010 in a spectacular display on the ground and in the air to honor all who have served, or are serving our great nation. Patriotism displayed by our brave men and women stationed at Andrews, home of Air Force One, is second to none.
While budgets appeared to have affected the static display this year, the flying portion of this years event left everyone very well satisfied. With blue skies and large crowds Andrews JSOH once again put together a flying lineup that thrilled the crowd with skill, professionalism, and raw afterburning power. Paul McCowan and the E Team skydivers opened the show each day with their huge American flag jump. Sean D. Tucker and Team Oracle brought a brand new airplane to debut this year at the JSOH. From Sean in the cockpit, they have big plans for this biplane. Sean asked everyone to think along the lines of what the remote control airplanes can do, can’t wait to see what he has in store! John Klatt did double duty in his ANG Staudacher S-300D putting on a stellar aerobatic demonstration, and racing Bill Braack in his USO sponsored jet car. Greg Poe followed Klatt’s lead tumbling his ethanol powered Fagen Inc. sponsored MX2 across the blue Maryland skies. As with the military, the civilians showed teamwork at its finest as the Sky Soldiers Cobra Demonstration team, and the Geico Skytypers showed their precision performing in multiple formations.
The JSOH as the Andrews show is called was true to form this year as each branch of our military was represented. An Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter was used in a fast-roping demonstration, and Saturday featured a mass jump of the 82nd Airborne. The Marines gave a demonstration of the AV-8B Harrier. The Navy gave a demonstration from their Super Hornet East Coast Demo Team. The Air Force gave demonstrations of the C-17 Globemaster III, the F-16 Viper East Coast Demo Team, and the F-22 Raptor Demonstration team. This years Joint Base Andrews JSOH was headlined by the U.S. Army Golden Knights black demonstration team, and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
