Once again this year between June 11th and 13th the city of Midlothian and Mid-way Regional Airport located between Midlothian and Waxahachie, Tx hosted the Dallas Ft. Worth’s Summer Balloon Classic & Airfest. And once again this year the weather didn’t corporate with the balloon portion. Winds and low ceilings prevented the balloon from flying for the second year in a row. But the weather on Saturday afternoon was perfect for the airshow portion entitled MidWay to the Skies.

  This year the event hosted a stop on the ARC Series Aerobatic Racing Challenge. During this event two aircraft speed through an aerobatic sequence in side-by-side timed competition. The competitors at this stop included Tony Wood in his Tubro Shark, his wife Julia Wood in her Pitts S-2B,  Kate Kyer in her Pitts S-2B and Jan Colmer in his Fina Extra 300L. Coupled with a great show announcer this event was a real crowd pleasure with beautiful side by side aerobatics with the added attraction racing.

  Not to be out done by the ARC event the home airport favorites the “Trojan Phlyers” put on both solo and formation aerobatics demos in their beautifully restored T-28s. With Chip Lamb flying solo, John Sledge and Frank Adams flying formation this team demonstrates their mastery of both the air and the aircraft. And besides nothing sounds better than a round engine in flight.

  Then to put the cherry on top we were entertained by the precision formation flying of the “Texas Twisters” a T-34 formation group out of, you guessed it, Texas. The Twisters drew a lot of attention with their colorful aircraft and precision formation flying passes. Then they really excite crowd with some great solo T-34 aerobatics.

  Between the wonderful aerobatics, the great vendors and the carnival for the kids all that attended had a great time.
