Once again this year between June 11th and 13th the city of Midlothian and Mid-way Regional Airport located between Midlothian and Waxahachie, Tx hosted the Dallas Ft. Worth’s Summer Balloon Classic & Airfest. And once again this year the weather didn’t corporate with the balloon portion. Winds and low ceilings prevented the balloon from flying for the second year in a row. But the weather on Saturday afternoon was perfect for the airshow portion entitled MidWay to the Skies.
This year the event hosted a stop on the ARC Series Aerobatic Racing Challenge. During this event two aircraft speed through an aerobatic sequence in side-by-side timed competition. The competitors at this stop included Tony Wood in his Tubro Shark, his wife Julia Wood in her Pitts S-2B, Kate Kyer in her Pitts S-2B and Jan Colmer in his Fina Extra 300L. Coupled with a great show announcer this event was a real crowd pleasure with beautiful side by side aerobatics with the added attraction racing. |

Not to be out done by the ARC event the home airport favorites the “Trojan Phlyers” put on both solo and formation aerobatics demos in their beautifully restored T-28s. With Chip Lamb flying solo, John Sledge and Frank Adams flying formation this team demonstrates their mastery of both the air and the aircraft. And besides nothing sounds better than a round engine in flight.
Then to put the cherry on top we were entertained by the precision formation flying of the “Texas Twisters” a T-34 formation group out of, you guessed it, Texas. The Twisters drew a lot of attention with their colorful aircraft and precision formation flying passes. Then they really excite crowd with some great solo T-34 aerobatics.
Between the wonderful aerobatics, the great vendors and the carnival for the kids all that attended had a great time.
