On Saturday October 3, 2009 there were two separate but related events that took place at Dugger’s Field in Asheville, Alabama. The weather was perfect with clear blue skies and nice warm temperatures. On the south end of the field was the Slasham Valley / Ashville Air Show. On the north end of the field was the Sky Country Lodge Fly In. Both events were organized and ran by the air show performer, Greg Koontz.

The air show performers included Greg Koontz flying his Super Decathlon and Piper Cub, Greg Aldridge flying a Super Chipmunk, CC Gerner flying an Extra 300L, Bryan Jensen flying his highly modified Pitts Model 12, Pat Epps flying his aerobatic Beechcraft Bonanza, Tim Williams flying a Red Thunder Yak, John “Bosco” Bostick flying a T6 Texan, and Mark Henley flying the P-51 Mustang Sarah Jean.

The Sky County Lodge at north end of the field served as the staging and hot ramp area for the air show. Air Boss duties were shared between Greg Koontz and Mark Henley. John “Bosco” Bostick, a former USAF Thunderbirds member, flying a T6 Texan with a parachute jumper opened the show above the 4,000 plus spectators. Over two and a half hours of flying exhibitions later, Mark Henley of the AeroShell Team, closed the show with an outstanding performance in a P-51 Mustang.

The invitational fly in at the Sky Country Lodge had over 55 different aircraft visit for the event. These included three helicopters, several ultra light aircraft, and the normal array of small private aviation aircraft, as well as a few privately owned war birds. Greg Koontz provided the fly in guests with a wonderful BBQ cookout lunch while they watched the air show from the far end of the runway.
