Father’s Day
weekend is a special time, especially in Hamilton, ON. It marks the open
house at Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. And this year especially with
the first public flight of their Westland Lysander.
After a 26 year restoration, their Lysander ascended to the skies over
Hamilton on Father’s Day. Original set for its maiden public flight on the
Saturday of this weekend, but Mother Nature did not co-operate. With a
constant display of low cloud, drizzle and rain the day’s flight
activities were grounded. The public could wonder around the inside the
hangar and check out many of the aircraft. Including a pair of P-51’s from
Vintage Wings of Canada and the Fighter Factory. Ed Russell’s Spitfire was
also on display. Outside were many of CWH’s jets and the Canadian Forces
Harvard II and Hawk.
Sunday and the skies were blue and a full day of fly pasts. Coming from
the St, Thomas airshow was the Centennial Flight consisting of the
Centennial Hornet, Hawk One and a Tutor representing the Golden
Centannaires. In return the Lancaster and the VWoC P-51 flew to their
show.
Also coming in for the day was a Canadian Forces CF-18 Hornet from
Bagotville. Plus Jeff Lewis brought in his Mig-15UTI and the L-39 of
Martin Mattes. |
